WHAT'S THE RED VEST ALL ABOUT?
The red vest that the scouts wear is called the "BRAG VEST".

On the brag vest you will see boys with many large or small patches. NO TWO VESTS
ARE ALIKE. The small patches on the back of the vest are called "SEGMENTS".
Each segment that a boy has on his vest represents some type of achievement. These
segments are earned not only within the den, but also individually at home.
The boys can earn segments for things they participate in outside of scouts, as long as
they are a registered scout.
For example, many of our Tigers registered in May. During the summer, if they played on
a sports team, went camping or participated in some other activity that is represented by a segment patch.
The parent may purchase and "award" their child with a segment.
While we encourage the boys to participate in activites, they are not in any way required.
The red brag vest is not a "contest". Each boy has different likes and dislikes - some which are represented by a segment
patch - others are not.
Please consider each patch you buy your child carefully. If you are awarding him a patch
every time he eats pizza or reads a book, it won't mean as much when he learns how to make a pizza or writes a storybook.
Other examples are....
The book- when they first learn how to read.
Cake- when it's their birthday.
Each segment costs 40 cents and is available at the scout shop also if your going to sew
the patches yourself try using invisible thread. If you don't want to pay the high prices at the cleaners you can contact our
local seamstress.
If you have any questions about the segment program, please contact your scout leaders
